synopsis
1180 AND MORE explores the connection between dance and visual arts, where their properties are exchanged through their relationship with time. Drawing and dance come together to create a dialogue between stillness, represented by single images, and movement, generated by their succession.
The white background—where characters and extensions emerge and vanish—reveals imagination and originality in modifying movement and color according to various parameters such as rhythm, size, and shade, resulting in a mutating representation of dance even in the absence of biological bodies.
1180 AND MORE was created by reproducing screenshots from contemporary dance videos through hand-drawn illustrations.
Each scene was later broken down into independent concepts, drawn and colored by the same dancer using simple pens and pencils on paper.
The entire project was completed over four months of work, comprising more than 1180 drawings, organized in Photoshop and later edited into a video sequence.
The persistent and demanding work of a dancer acting as a craftsman in a homemade animation is one of the defining qualities of a film that has toured both small and large festivals and competitions around the world.
